Insights Behind the Lens

Presentation & Expert Dialogue

Join Alamaya Asia Photographers Tan Yong Lin, Shinto K Anto, and Raphael Loh as they discuss the beauty of finding colours in nature and what goes on behind the scenes. Moderated by Evangelista Wan, they will share unique stories, techniques, and mindsets in capturing our natural wonders.

Moderator & Founder

Evangelista Wan is the Founder of Alamaya Asia, and a wildlife cinematographer. She combines her passion for artistic films and photography with her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies to create a platform for wildlife photographers to distribute their art, and produce films promoting sustainability and an appreciation for nature. To date, she has filmed for platforms including Animal Planet, Wildscreen, OceanX, Love Nature, and Channel News Asia.

Tan Yong Lin is a photographer from Singapore who has been documenting the country's biodiversity from the busy city to the coasts and mangroves. He hopes to tell the story of coexistence between wildlife and humans through his photos and to inspire people to care more for their local biodiversity, regardless of where they might be. His other photography projects involve documenting disappearing places and landscapes in Singapore.

Shinto K. Anto is a full-time engineer and passionate underwater photographer whose journey began ten years ago with just an action camera and a love for discovery. His work captures the hidden beauty of Singapore’s underwater ecosystems, with a focus on advocating for marine conservation. Shinto’s dedication to showcasing local marine biodiversity has led to his work being featured in documentaries on Singapore’s marine life and diving, bringing greater attention to the unique underwater habitats Singapore has to offer. Through his images, he hopes to inspire others to explore and appreciate the world beneath the ocean’s surface.

Raphael Loh

Speaker

Raphael is an astrophotographer and science communicator with nearly two decades of passion for astronomy. As a former Science Educator at Science Centre Singapore, he engaged the public in weekly stargazing sessions and ran a live-stream of the 2019 Jupiter opposition. He later served as President of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Astronomical Society, promoting astronomy among students. Committed to making astronomy accessible, Raphael enjoys setting up telescopes near MRT stations and shopping malls — bringing the stars to the streets and offering many their first glimpse through a telescope. He also loves travelling — often to Mersing for astrophotography to escape Singapore’s light pollution, and in 2024, to the United States where he toured mountain-top observatories and captured the total solar eclipse on 8 April. Through his work, Raphael hopes to spark curiosity about nature and help people connect with the cosmos.

Finding Community in Alam

Expert Dialogue

“Alam” means “natural world” in Melayu. This panel explores how nature helps people find connection, identity, and community. Moderated by Movin Nyanasengeran, it features marine filmmaker Nikki Tan—director of a film on drag and indigenous relations with nature, 15-year-old wildlife photographer Kaeden Sim, and forest therapy guide Ding Kian Seng. Together, they’ll share how nature opens doors to friendship, chosen families, and self-discovery across age, gender, and culture.

Movin is a ornithologist and conservationist from Singapore. At present, he works closely with partners in the Philippines to help build capacity and catalyse action to protect a host of bird species across the mountains of the archipelago. He is passionate about the value different perspectives and cultures can bring to bring to conservation and just generally making the world a better place.  Besides this, he is an avid birdwatcher and can be seen in some of the more remote regions of the world with a pair of binoculars round his neck.

Nikki Tan is a conservation filmmaker and director based in Singapore. In her full-time role, Nikki serves as Content Lead for Rumah Foundation, a family office passionate about ocean protection and climate action, and Coastal Natives, a marine conservation organisation dedicated to ocean film, art, and education. She works closely with partners to strengthen their communications capacity, amplify regional impact storytelling, and lead the organisation’s overall communications strategy.
Beyond her day-to-day work, Nikki was recently selected as a grantee for the Wildscreen and On The Edge’s Edge of Nature short film fund. Her underwater short film MURK! has been featured at several film festivals.
Through all her work, Nikki strives to bridge the gap between science and the public, harnessing the power of film to inspire action and advocate for the preservation of our oceans and climate.

Kaeden Sim Wing is a passionate 16-year-old, who's been infected by the birding bug since primary school. As the youngest member of the Bird Society of Singapore, he has led guided tours and managed booths at outreach programmes. Additionally, he volunteers for NParks and the Nature Society, as a guide for their nature walks. Notably, he had the opportunity to guide Minister Desmond Lee on a tour through Jurong Lake Gardens.

Kian is passionate about holistic well-being and inclusion. He is the co-founder of Outdoor Sports Kakis (OSK), a community initiative that promotes active living through inclusive engagement in outdoor sports and meaningful connections with nature. 

As a certified Forest Therapy Guide, Mental Wellness Coach, and Autism Exercise Specialist, Kian facilitates nature-based experiences that are accessible to individuals of all abilities. He graduated with a Master in Special and Inclusive Education and is also trained as a Leave No Trace instructor, advocating for responsible outdoor ethics. 

A professional coach in Kayaking, Stand-up paddling, and Dragon boating, Kian curates and leads immersive experiences that blend movement, mindfulness, and care for the natural world.

Stories from Analog Film to Digital Photography

Interactive Storytelling & Presentation

Moderated by Ko Chuan Yang, join former wildlife film photographer Morton Strange and Alamaya photographer-filmmaker Terence Szeto as they discuss whether analog wildlife film photography is still relevant, and what lessons we can take away from each medium.

Ko Chuan Yang is a Singaporean cinematographer specialising in natural history and documentary. He has been involved in numerous projects with major broadcasters like National Geographic, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Disney, Netflix, Sky, Warner Bros. Discovery and many other smaller channels. He has filmed all kinds of subjects, from ants to whales to people, all over the world.Specialising in long-lens and underwater work, and also shooting with gimbals, drones and even gyro-stabilised systems, he is currently a Senior Camera Operator at the BBC Natural History Unit.Chuan Yang hopes that by sharing his experiences and knowledge in the industry with other aspiring filmmakers, he will be able to contribute to building a strong community of wildlife filmmakers here in Singapore and inspire people thinking about a career in natural history film.

Since young, Terence always had a fondness for the outdoors. When he picked up his first camera at 16 years old, he combined his love of travel, photography and nature and has since produced noteworthy images that have won awards. His images​ have been shot all over the globe, from locally in Singapore to other locations such as Southeast Asia, Iceland, Kenya, Uganda, Nepal, India etc. He hopes that his photos and videos will serve to inspire others to fall in love with the natural world and learn more about our planet's biodiversity. He is currently growing a YouTube channel to educate and inspire others about wildlife and wildlife photography.

Join Biophilia Expert Dr Denise Dillon, and Nature Educator, Noelle Ong in discussing the benefits of incorporating natural elements inside and outside our homes in early childhood development.

Rebecca is an enthusiastic early childhood educator with eight years of experience in the sector. She holds a degree in Psychology and a Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education, forming the foundation of her child-centered approach. She believes that even the youngest children deserve to be deeply understood — especially when they lack the language skills to express themselves. Her teaching philosophy centers on respectful, authentic interactions and the importance of play as a powerful medium for learning and connection. Currently, she supports children from lower-income families through a national initiative that provides them with a stronger start in life by equipping parents and milestones tracking – ensuring each child is on the path to reach their full potential. Through these years, she has built strong, trusting relationships with children and their families, empowering parents with insights into child behavior to foster lasting bonds in hopes of inspiring more families to embrace the joy of parenthood.

Associate Professor Denise Dillon is acting Dean Research at James Cook University in Singapore, where she oversees research strategy and governance for diverse teams of researchers pursuing high-quality, curiosity-driven and strategically significant research to achieve international excellence in all areas. Her primary research focus is biophilia (natural emotional connections with nature) pertaining to both natural and built environments, and this includes factors such as nature connectedness and eco-anxiety. Her research in the field of environmental psychology has yielded extensive insights into the links between green spaces and mental health, emphasizing the role of natural environments in stress reduction and emotional well-being. By actively engaging with public health communities and parent groups, Denise has shared her findings at key forums to encourage practical applications of nature-based solutions for mental resilience. Denise is a certified Forest Therapy Guide.

Noelle.HEIC

Speaker

Noelle holds a Bachelor's degree in Business and Environmental Science and currently works as an ecologist and illustrator at The Untamed Paths. Her expertise lies in biodiversity and ecosystem services, where she focuses on fostering human-wildlife coexistence and understanding the complexities of ecosystems. Previously, she was a research assistant at NTU's Asian School of the Environment, focusing on nature-based solutions in urban contexts.

Madame Margaux Film Premiere

Film Screening & Meet the Filmmakers

Commissioned by Wildscreen Festival and selected by major international film festivals, Madame Margaux is a 20-minute short film celebrating queerness, nature, and indigenous pride through the story of a drag queen whose performance is inspired by the Tboli leaf warbler. This Singapore premiere will be followed by a panel with the filmmakers, Nikki Tan, Bambby Cheuk, and Movin Nyanasengeran, diving into the creative process and production journey.

Bambby Cheuk

Bambby Cheuk is a Singaporean producer of film and multimedia works. Her recent films Children’s Day (Berlinale Shorts Competition 2025), Cabinet of Curiosities (Singapore Art Week, 2025), Madame Margaux (Wildscreen 2024), Breaking News (Apple TV, Singapore International Film Festival, 2022) range over social, environmental, and scientific issues. Bambby is an alumna of prestigious creative documentary platforms, including Berlinale European Film Market Doc Toolbox, Rotterdam Lab, EURODOC, and Docs by the Sea. Currently, she is a freelance producer, splitting most of her time at Pōtocol and Cinemovement. Aside from filmmaking, she volunteers at a mushroom farm staffed entirely with adults with special needs.

Evangelista Wan combines her passion for artistic films and photography with her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies to produce films promoting sustainability and an appreciation for nature. To date, she has filmed for platforms including Animal Planet, Wildscreen, OceanX, Love Nature, and Channel News Asia, specialising in Wildlife Documentary.

She has a well-rounded understanding of film production, having performed in various capacities from pre- to post-production.  Some of these experiences include camera assistant roles on series such as Masterchef SG and film editing for companies like Fujifilm and Hilton Group.

When not engaged on wildlife-related projects, Evangelista also shoots for the local sports, nightlife, dance, and event scenes.
