An Indian Peafowl Perched on a Tree
Pavo cristatus
The woodlands of Sri Lanka are filled with bombastic trumpets of the Indian Peafowls in the early mornings, with each male announcing his dominance over the others. Here, one such glamorous bird perches high on a tree, surveying its territory like a King before beginning its daily foray…or maybe it was just lost and was looking for high ground to find its way around, who knows. And by the way, it was also quite loud. Really, they’re very noisy. The Indian Peafowl is. Just. Incredibly. Noisy. But hey, that’s what I love about nature – the environment is full of sounds that flood my auditory senses in ways that I enjoy. It’s far better than a silent forest and certainly a premium over any form of urban noise.
