Phoebastria nigripes
The plights that the Black-footed Albatross experiences due to human activities are immense: habitat degradation, chemical pollution, oil pollution, and by-catch from fishery nets. Here, one seemingly healthy bird soars above the Pacific Ocean. None of us will ever know what the bird has truly gone through from just looking at it and for all we know, it might have been poisoned just several hours ago. The impacts of our interaction with the planet take time to manifest, and often we are just unaware of our actions’ effects.
