Ring of Fire

Ring of Fire

$60.00Price

By Raphael Loh

The 2019 Annular Solar Eclipse was a rare celestial event and a meaningful one for me. It was the first time such an eclipse was visible from Singapore since 1998, the year I was born. This type of eclipse, where the Moon appears slightly too small to cover the entire Sun, creates the iconic "ring of fire".

I captured this photo using a telescope fitted with a filter that isolates a specific hue of red light, allowing us to see details of the Sun’s surface that would otherwise be invisible. In this photo, solar flares can be seen dancing along the edges of the Sun, particularly at the northern, western, and eastern rims.
