Halcyon smyrnensis
A White-throated Kingfisher is perched on a tree, surrounded by beautiful coniferous branches and leaves, reminiscent of a Japanese painting. I like experimenting with wide environmental shots of birds. When I was at Coney Island, I noticed how unique the coniferous forest was when compared to the mainland of Singapore. Spotting this White-throated Kingfisher on a nice perch, I knew I had found the opportunity to get what I wanted. The compression of the telephoto lens together with the casuarina leaves created a painterly effect, making it one of the most unique bird photos I have taken in Singapore.
