Feathers are mind-blowing. They’re formed by tiny hooks (barbicels) hooked onto bigger hooks (barbules) that are hooked onto even bigger hooks (barbs) that are then attached to the main shaft. What really blew my mind even more is the fact that I managed to capture this photograph. The Anna’s Hummingbird was hovering right in front of me, and I actually just held down my camera shutter without aiming because I was searching for my target, the Lucifer Hummingbird, instead. I really like how it turned out in the end.
